Heather Benn, Director of Communications, (continued)

...Ms. Benn is currently managing a community-nutrition focused program on behalf of Unilever, as well as various nutrition-focused projects on behalf of Weight Watchers.

Before joining EAT FOOD, Ms. Benn was a Vice President at Fleishman-Hillard, where she led a variety of business including Subway, Perdue, and Global Tropicana. She also led the Dannon account, managing a variety of programs including the launch of Activia, a probiotic yogurt that aids in digestion.

While at Fleishman-Hillard, she worked to educate both the consumer and trade media on a variety of branded food products and commodities, including the Catfish Institute, Carapelli Olive Oil, and Freschetta Pizza.

Prior to joining FH, Ms. Benn worked at Lou Hammond & Associates, where she managed the Bermuda Department of Tourism account. She focused on increasing media awareness of the island by organizing and leading press trips and individual visits. She also played an instrumental role in launching the “New Bermuda

 

2000” campaign, and she accompanied Bermuda tourism officials and leaders on a media tour of key cities across the United States.

Previously, Ms. Benn was the manager of media and public relations at the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, where she managed media inquiries including crises such as hurricanes and the NAACP boycott. In addition to public relations, Ms. Benn has a strong background in television news. She spent more than two years as a producer for the local NBC affiliate in Charleston, South Carolina. While there, she produced a variety of daily newscasts.

In addition to her role as newscast producer, she field-produced stories ranging from a high-profile criminal trial to hurricanes. Ms. Benn has also worked in the special assignment unit for CNN, where she assisted producers on the research and production of several projects for CNN’s “Time Impact” program.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and English from the University of Vermont.
